Senior Webcast Project Manager
Mary Tamez-Foley

When you meet Mary, you’d never guess this lighthearted, charmer is a former Navy veteran. Then you go into her office and it all starts to make sense: We swear her desk has hospital corners. And if you dare mess with her flow charts, be prepared to drop and give her twenty.

So what exactly does a Webcast Project Manager do?

Ha! A lot. I manage the day-to-day details required to produce and run a webcast. A big part of my job used to involve explaining what a webcast is. Now 95% of people I talk to already know. Do I take credit for that? Sure, why not!

Now how would you explain that to your five-year-old niece?
Auntie’s job is like putting together a puzzle, but on the Internet. I take all the little pieces and put them together the right way to make the big picture.

Walk us through a typical day.
A typical day consists of conference calls, creating event registration reports, working with our creative department to create marketing collateral, collecting assets for events ... and tons of emailing.

You felt you deserved a big fat raise the day you ...
Pulled off a webcast for one of our clients — from beginning to the live event — in three days! Luckily, I don’t need much sleep.

What’s your approach to client relationships?
I always try to make a personal connection with my clients — whether it’s finding out we used to live in the same city or that we both share a mutual distain for clutter! It sounds like a small thing, but taking a little time to get to know a client beyond their job title always makes for a better — and more enjoyable — work relationship.

If someone met you, they’d probably never guess.
That I used to be in the Navy.

When you grew up you wanted to be
Believe it or not, when I was little I used to dream of having a grown-up career where I could wear a suit to work. See, dreams really do come true!

Would you shave your head for $1,000?
Add a few more zeros and I’d consider it ...

What do you love about working here?
The people are great — my clients, my colleagues, everyone. I feel really lucky.

The best thing a client ever said to you was ...
“You’re a great asset to the King Fish team. We know we are in good hands with you managing our projects.” And yes, I have that memorized.

Why do you think clients like working with you?
Because they know I am going to make the whole process as smooth as possible ... and fun, too. Life’s too short not to enjoy yourself.

How would you describe yourself in three words?
Efficient, witty and personable.

And what would your colleagues say?
Probably the same ... except they might add, “She hates clutter so don’t mess up her desk.”

If you could be any fictional character, who would you be?
My husband would say I am the donkey in Shrek, cause I love to talk.
